birthday

Birthday shenanigans

My birthday is on the 19th of this month. I shall, however, be in Baltimore. New England friends are invited to celebrate with me instead on the 12th.

The party starts around 7pm this Saturday. Our house. Potluck, please (we are sorely broke this year). I was hoping for dinner-type foods (rather than just all party snacks). Our kitchen is open if you need to cook anything.

I do hope you can make it.

upcoming fun times:

Please mark your calendars with a notation regarding the following upcoming super great fun times of awesomeness:

Friday, November 20, 7:30pm – Arkham Horror game night!

Saturday, December 12, 7pm – A Birthday party for ME! YAY!

And if you’re interested in joining a book club, I’m starting one. The first book we’re reading is Dear American Airlines by Jonathan Miles, and our first meeting is Friday, December 11, around 8:30 pm somewhere in Providence, most likely. More info on that is forthcoming, obviously.

Let me know if you’d like to come to any of these! YAY!

Can I have a do-over?

It’s been a blur these last four weeks or so. Spent Thanksgiving with my family in Maryland, which was fun. Reconnected with a friend from way-back, which is awesome. I haven’t been very festive lately, though. Odd for me, since I really look forward to my Birthday and Christmas. I haven’t been grinchy or anything, just not festive. The house is still decorated for Halloween. And I guess the snow storm(s) canceling most of my birthday fun didn’t help. But really, I wasn’t especially anticipating it this year. And I haven’t shopped for gifts, even for the kids in the family. Everyone’s getting their stuff late from me. I haven’t sent cards. I’m such a slacker. I’ve been in denial and now here it is, Christmas Eve, and I haven’t done anything remotely Christmassy.

I think what I’ll do is just have my holiday fun in January. I’m still planning on having New Years’ Linner on Saturday the 3rd, at which time I hope to have some meager gifts for my friends. And perhaps I’ll send out some New Years’ cards. Yeah, that sounds like a plan.

I didn’t mean to skip Christmas, it just sorta happened.

postponing the party

Weather doom. Postponing for another day. Perhaps tomorrow.

super birthday fun times

So, I’m in complete denial about the time of year. I’m excited for my birthday, yes, but have been in complete denial that the day is in fact tomorrow. Hence, why the notification regarding my birthday plans have been a little, shall we say, slap-dash. Right, so, here we go, then:

Friday, 19 December 2008, 8pm, Chez Nous.

We’ll have plenty of drinks (hard and soft) and snacks, but feel free to contribute if you so desire. No theme this year, just come over and hang out. JeT put out an invite on Facebook, but if you don’t check that sort of thing, um, sorry.

Ok, if you have any questions feel free to call, but I may not pick up because I only have, perhaps three? minutes left on my plan this month and it doesn’t reset until tomorrow, so I suppose the best way to contact us would be through texting, if you’re able to do that sort of thing. Otherwise email’s the second best way to go. I’ll try to check regularly this evening.

Cheers!

notices:

December 19 is my birthday. It falls on a Friday. Prepare for a party.

Knowing how I operate, expect belated holiday gifts. We will have a linner* party for friends on the 3rd of January. It’s a Saturday.

* Linner = Lunch + Dinner. That way people with childrens can come earlier and not feel like they’re missing out on stuff. And people are welcome to stay later into the night for more fun times.

Go vote for Dan White for The Rhode Show. He’s one of PRD’s announcers, and we want to support him. Here’s the link: http://www.wpri.com/generic/entertainment/ent_other_3/the_rhode_show

You can vote once a day, or you can clear your cookies in your browser and vote as many times as you want. He’s tied at 22 percent right now. Go vote!!!

I wish, I wish…

Some of you may know of my love for the American Girl dolls. I know, I know. Expensive, yuppie toys. But when I was a kid, I actually had to save my allowance to buy one. Yes, I had a privileged childhood, but my parents did have some standards, you know.

Anyway, when I was 11, I saved and saved to buy my own Samantha doll. For my birthday and Christmas the next couple of years, I received some of her accessories. Then when I was a teenager and young adult, I stopped getting those things as gifts, and I spent my money on other stuff. Then I grew up and had bills and other adult stuff to pay for. I always thought I’d have the chance to catch up, complete the collection. Well, it seems time has nearly run out.

After over 20 years, Samantha is being retired. It turns out there are many, many items that I neeeeeeeeeeeeeed before they go away. Since this is the last holiday season that Samantha’s stuff will be available, I have created a gift registry. If any of you are considering buying me a gift this year for whatever occasion (birthday, Christmas, Decemberween, Chrismahannusolstikwansika), please consider indulging my 11 year old self. Just follow this link and enter the following info:

American Girl Dot Com

Parent’s last name: (my last name)
Child’s first name: (my first name)
Gift registry number: 47629662

That’s it!

Oh, and they’re selling out fast. Just sayin’.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT!

Happy Birthday to MK!

Going to a super-fun party tonight to celebrate her 30th time around the sun. I have a fabulous new dress, and fabulous shoes, and a fabulous new hair cut. All of which is appropriate to the theme, “Dress to Thrill.” (Especially my fabulous new hair accessory.)

In health related news, I still don’t know what’s up. So, let’s hope no news is good news, eh? Another appointment on Wednesday morning. And I’ll (finally) get my heart-test results back Monday. I figure if I exploding were immanent, they would have been required to tell me, yes? One hopes.

But no time for worrying, Dr. Jones, there’s a party to go to. (And cookies to eat.)

Merry Decemberween!

Merry Decemberween!

I know it’s almost over, but I hope everyone’s December festivities have been super wonderful. We’re down at my folk’s house in MD for the week and having a great time. Christmas was super fun. I love watching the kids open presents. Since there are only two kids in the family at the moment, everyone was putting the pressure on for JeT and I to contribute to the younger population so that there’ll be more kids to watch on Christmas morning. Yeah, probably not anytime soon. Though woo hoo for all the friends who have announced their expected little ones! (You’ve all been busy: there were two baby announcements and one engagement! Hooray!)

I’ve finally uploaded photos from the last couple of months. Geez, we were wicked busy, weren’t we? There are photos from Thanksgiving with friends, the Fancy Schmancy Dancy Birthiversary Party, the Hooray for Repeal Day Party with librarians, the Ugly Sweater Party, snow, birthday, and Christmas. It’s been crazy-fun. There are also pictures of recent crafty projects: felted bags, and a doll of The Dude (from The Big Lebowski). And cupcakes. Yum!

See you all in the New Year!

Thanks!

Thanks to all who have wished me a happy birthday, happy holidays, and happy graduation. It’s been a happy, happy time around these parts recently, and I’d like to express my gratitude the only way I know how: with The Muppets. Enjoy!
