Rollery Derby Roster

For those of you interested in joining roller derby someday, or just like making up derby names, you should check this out. In order to have your name be official, it must be at least somewhat different than the names on this list. I found out that all of the ones I had in my head were thought of by other people, but I am not thwarted yet. I’ve been compiling a list while I should be working on other stuff.

Right. Back to work.

Fifteen days and counting

It’s the end of the semester. Everything’s due. Luckily, I don’t have that much to pull together. Here’s a list of what’s left on my plate:

  • Book review for Oral History, due tomorrow (DONE!)
  • Oral History files, including all the paperwork and cataloging for my two interviews, one should be submitted tomorrow, and the other the following Monday. (DONE!)
  • Research paper and presentation: Textile Preservation for Archives, due Thursday (DONE!)

Not too bad, really. This week will be a little crazy, but next week will be a breeze, just tying up loose ends and what not. I spent most of this weekend getting organized for the final push, and getting my resume up to date. I sent it off to a prospective employer today. More on that as it develops.

Crochet-a-go-go

a dozen mushrooms and a gnome

Gnome the first is complete. Now that the prototype is done, I’ll be able to make several more without too many problems. The first one is always the most difficult, especially without a plan. I tend not to plan crafty stuff- just pick up the materials and go with it.

I think he came out rather cute. What’s a good name for a gnome who looks like he just stepped out of a pub, is walking down the street, hands in pockets, whistling while he goes? He needs a good, gnomey name.

The mushrooms are coming along nicely as well. I thought I had a bakers dozen completed, but I could only find twelve for this photo. I hope the kitties didn’t raid my shroomie stash. I think I’ll take some more pictures before I leave for work today so that I can get some Moo mini cards printed from Flickr. I was waiting until I had enough, so that I can get cards with different pictures on them. (Moo cards are like business cards or calling cards, but little, and way more fun.)

The mushrooms have been taking me about an hour to make. The gnome took me a while longer, because of all the false starts, do-overs, and whatnot.

I want a gnome hat. I shall have to make one.

SMRT

Have you ever planned for something in such detail that part of your brain assumes that you’ve actually done it, but then you find out, a week after you were supposed to have done that thing, that you didn’t actually do it, and then are completely surprised and horrified, have a wicked panic attack, cry a million rivers, and then have to come up with a new plan in about five minutes?

I thought I registered for the fall semester last Tuesday. But I didn’t.

I just registered a few minutes ago. Now I have to go to Mt. Holyoke on Saturdays for one of my required courses, and I have to take a different elective than I wanted. Luckily, I found classes that would meet my requirements, but I really, REALLY, wanted a particular course with a particular instructor.

I feel so stupid. And a little freaked out that my brain totally invented something that didn’t actually happen. I think my brain created a memory of having already registered, because I had gone online and selected my classes in preparation for registering. I’m so angry at myself for having done something so completely stupid. Argh.

Oh, well. Nothing I can do about it now. No use crying over spilled courses.

UPDATE: I am now registered for the main campus section of one of my classes, so I don’t have to go out to the Wild West every Saturday next fall. Thank goodness for waitlists Though, I doubt I’ll be allowed in the other waitlisted course, since I’m number twelve in the queue.

Gnomes

Crow Gnome Eater

I’m rather obsessed with gnomes of late. I have always liked them, and will have a garden full of them in the future. (Though hopefully, none will be like the ones in HP. They wreaked too much havoc.)

Searching Flickr for “gnomes” revealed this gem. I love puns. I love gnomes. I love gnome puns! Hooray!

PS- I need to go here someday.

NEA Conference

Saturday, 31 March 2007: New England Archivists Conference in Chelmsford, MA

This was my first professional conference, and I’m happy to report that I had a pretty good time. It was informative and well organized. I’m definitely going to attend future NEA conferences. I’m also looking forward to the Society of American Archivists conference this summer. It’ll be in Chicago.

I took a bunch of notes on the specific sessions I attended, and I’ll be posting those in separate entries so that each one isn’t really long and boring. Ok, so I can’t guarantee that they won’t be boring, but at least they won’t be really long, right?

It was a really long day, and I collapsed on the couch when I got home, but well worth it.

Happy Easter!

cherry cupcakes

Behold! Today’s dessert!

We bought a bunch of stuff from Pangea, and I made a batch of vanilla cupcakes, transforming lemon frosting into cherry frosting. They came out pretty good. I couldn’t pipe the frosting on, though, because of all the cherry bits.

Today was pretty fun. I didn’t get enough work done this weekend, but that’s always the case. Nothing I can’t catch up on this week.

Click through to Flickr for more Easter photos. Here’s a fun link: Cat and Girl celebrate Easter. Man, I love this comic.

“Your snack selection is more than disappointing!”

I was playing around with Netvibes.com, setting up a homepage. I’d been meaning to do this for ages now, so I’m finally getting around to configuring modules and whatnot. Something caught my eye in the video search module: “Andy Duncan” in the tags. I had to see what it was. Consider me amused.
