Buggin’

The cats have fleas. It’s disgusting. Poor Crookshanks has them worse than Phoebe, and he isn’t the one who brought them into the house! We’re making them both indoor cats so that they don’t keep eating weird things outside and getting sick, and bringing in bugs and whatnot in on their fur. Part of me feels bad for making them stay inside, when we live in a really nice place for outdoor cats (provided you bring them in at night to avoid making them into coyote snacks). But we’re just tired of all this hullaballoo.

On another cat-related note, ‘Shanks has pooped fairly normal yesterday and today. He’s out of his medecine, so we increased the amount of canned pumpkin, and it works better than that other stuff ever did. They told us to stop feeding him the canned pumpkin when we started him on the lactulose syrup. We had no success with the syrup whatsoever. And we were giving him doses of that stuff that would send a grown man running for the bathroom just in time. It had no effect on him. I’m just going to go back to what we were doing before, and keeping up with the belly massages. That really helps him go. Not that any of you really needed to know those kind of details about our cat’s intestinal business, but there you go.

We’ve spent yesterday and today cleaning up the house, trying to debug it. We threw out that nasty ol’ green carpet (even though it really did tie the room together), and the brown patterned rug upstairs has to be severely dealt with. Someone decided it would be awesome to piss all over it while we were gone. (And I don’t think it was Woo, this time. Damn carpet pissers). Ugh. I feel so dirty and disgusting. I’m pretty sure the bedroom was closed up while we were gone. At least, I know I shut the door before we left, but JeT thinks the door to the bedroom was open, and he was the first upstairs when we got home. Either way, we didn’t think to check the cats for bugs when we opened the room and let them sleep on our bed with us! Argh.

We’ve washed every exposed textile in the house, just to be safe. We’ve got some carpet treatment stuff to put on tonight, and the cats will get shampooed. We slapped some flea collars on them this afternoon, so that should help us out to start with. Dirty, dirty, dirty.

I need five showers.

Home again, home again, jiggity-jig

(As my Grandmother used to say)

Well, we’re back. A day earlier than we thought we were going to be home, because I can’t read itineraries, apparently.

We had a fantastic time in Newfoundland. I’m exhausted, sad to leave Canada, but happy to be home. The cats missed us terribly, I think. Well, Crookshanks did. Phoebe just scarfed down her food, and meowed to go outside. ‘Shanks hasn’t left our side since we got home.

We took tons of photos, and I’ll post the highlights once I have a chance to sort through them all. I tried to send out as many postcards as I had time for, but some might not come for another day or so, since I just mailed a bunch of them from the boat Wednesday night/Thursday morning. They probably went out in the post from Cape Breton.

Now I have to shift my brain to get ready for school in a couple of weeks. Argh. After traveling about 3000 miles (round trip) I don’t want to think about much of anything, really.

Anyone who has a chance to see Newfoundland, though, should take the opportunity. It’s absolutely beautiful and wonderful. Long live The Rock.

Lee Ving…

… but not on a rail train.

We leave tomorrow for the Great White North. The forcast for our destination is 60s and drizzling. Ah, refreshment! We’ll be there for the Blueberry Festival, I hope. I could go for some awesome Newfoundland blueberry jam. Oh, and bakeapple jam, too. (Also known as cloud berries.)

I won’t have access to the internet while I’m gone, but I’ll retro-post when I get back. I’ll take a ton of pictures, I’m sure. I’m determined to actually see a moose close enough to get a good photo. (Though I’d rather the moose were far away from the car while we’re moving. Scary business, those moose accidents.)

See you all in a couple of weeks. Look to your mailbox.
